Histology Lab Operator I (Genetic Testing)

Location: Austin, TX, United States; onsite laboratory role

What you will do

• Assist certified and licensed personnel with clinical patient testing according to standard operating procedures.
• Prepare tissues, stained slides, and macrodissections for the tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory.
• Set up equipment and support automated laboratory procedures and daily workflow tasks.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, supplies, and inventory in good operating condition.
• Document information accurately according to Good Documentation Practices.
• Provide guidance to new team members, train on specialized instruments and protocols, and escalate stuck cases or unresolved issues.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of related experience.
• Associate degree or higher in a histotechnician program, or a qualifying degree in chemical or biological sciences with the required histology experience or training.
• Qualifying histology training may include completion of a histotechnician program lasting at least nine months.
• A copy of the degree is required at hire; the degree must be from the United States or equivalent to a U.S. degree.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, computer, technical, word-processing, and data-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a group and follow department time and attendance guidelines.
