Histology Supervisor (AI)

Location: Chicago, United States; Saturday shift required

Salary: $90,000–$105,000 annually for Chicago; actual compensation may vary by qualifications and experience.

What you will do

• Manage daily operations of the pathology laboratory, including scheduling, workflow prioritization, quality oversight, compliance, and resource planning.
• Lead the histology team through hiring, training, performance reviews, coaching, recognition, and corrective action.
• Train histotechnologists and conduct proficiency testing for new and existing staff.
• Audit LIMS reports to ensure samples are processed accurately and within the required timeframe.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and document laboratory equipment while investigating incidents and procedural deviations.
• Maintain inventory, support histotechnology work as needed, and optimize and validate antibodies for immunohistochemistry staining platforms.

Requirements

• Valid histotechnology certification and at least five years of relevant experience, including cutting fresh and fixed samples, H&E and IHC staining, processing, embedding, and immunohistochemistry validation.
• College degree with at least 60 total semester hours, including 12 hours in biology and chemistry.
• Ability to delegate tasks, communicate technical information to non-technical audiences, and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, adaptability, and ability to work in a fast-paced and potentially stressful environment.
• Ability to work the required Saturday shift in Chicago.

Nice to have

• Experience validating immunohistochemistry protocols and supervising laboratory staff.
• Experience in a CLIA/CAP high-complexity laboratory.
• Experience writing, revising, and evaluating standard operating procedures.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment troubleshooting, LIMS platforms, and other computer systems.
