Senior Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment

Location: Remote from the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Ireland, or Poland; applicants must be EU- or UK-qualified attorneys working from the EU or UK. The role supports European time zones and may also cover matters in MENA and APAC.

What you will do

• Provide EU and UK labor and employment advice on worker classification, employee separations, employee relations, executive compensation, and wage-and-hour matters.
• Advise on works councils, collective consultations, pay transparency, employee representatives, restructurings, and acquisitions.
• Support European M&A due diligence, post-closing workforce integration, policy harmonization, and consultation requirements.
• Develop and localize employment policies and procedures, and deliver related training with the Payward Experience team and business leaders.
• Advise on employee and candidate data privacy, including GDPR, UK GDPR, and cross-border HR and recruiting data transfers.
• Manage workplace investigations, outside counsel, local-law opinions, pre-litigation matters, global mobility, contingent workforce issues, and European expansion decisions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of legal experience advising on employment, labor, and executive compensation matters across the EU, UK, and other jurisdictions.
• Experience in both in-house and law-firm environments, supporting high-growth companies and mature large enterprises.
• Broad international labor and employment experience, including works councils, collective consultation, and employee representative bodies.
• Experience advising on employee and candidate data privacy under GDPR and UK GDPR.
• Hands-on proficiency with generative AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT, with sound judgment regarding local-law verification, confidentiality, privilege, and personal data.
• Proactive, entrepreneurial approach and the ability to use legal advice to increase business optionality.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, crypto, or other regulated financial services industries.
• Experience with MENA and/or APAC employment markets.
• Experience with acquisition due diligence, transfer-of-undertakings rules, and post-closing workforce integration.
• Interest in the crypto industry and its role in building an open, global financial system.
