Counsel (Employment Law)

Location: Denver, CO, United States

Salary: $159,900–$210,000 per year, plus bonus eligibility based on individual and company performance.

What you will do

• Advise Human Resources and business leaders on employee relations, investigations, accommodations, leave, wage and hour matters, discipline, terminations, reductions in force, and restrictive covenants.
• Manage employment matters end to end, including agency charges, demand letters, disputes, settlements, and outside litigation counsel.
• Draft and standardize employment agreements, offer letters, separation agreements, policies, and handbooks across jurisdictions.
• Build employment legal operations, including intake, triage, matter tracking, metrics, reporting, templates, playbooks, and self-service tools.
• Implement and maintain legal technology for matter management, document automation, and AI-assisted workflows while managing outside counsel spend.
• Oversee employment compliance, insurance and enterprise risk matters, corporate governance support, investigations, and workforce aspects of restructurings and transactions.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Seven or more years of employment law experience, including law firm training and meaningful in-house experience.
• Experience independently managing a broad employment and labor docket and advising business leaders with sound judgment.
• Experience building or improving legal processes, tracking systems, tools, employment documentation, policies, and handbooks.
• Strong attention to detail, business acumen, communication skills, integrity, discretion, and ability to manage ambiguity.
• Work is based in Denver, Colorado.

Nice to have

• Multistate employer experience involving complex wage and hour and leave compliance.
• Legal operations or legal technology implementation experience, including AI-enabled tools.
• Experience with reductions in force, WARN compliance, workforce integration in M&A, or executive compensation.
• Experience with public company or private equity-backed governance, corporate insurance, and enterprise risk management.
