TL;DR
Counsel - Employee Benefits Division (Insurance Regulatory Compliance): Advising on statutory paid family and medical leave, disability, and group employee benefits insurance products with an accent on state and federal regulatory analysis, product compliance, and risk management. Focus on interpreting insurance laws, reviewing policy and marketing materials, supporting filings and regulatory matters, and translating complex requirements into practical business guidance.

Location: Work from home in the United States; an active license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction is required

Salary: $145,000–$180,000 annually, plus potential annual incentive compensation

What you will do

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret state and federal laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance affecting PFML, disability, and other employee benefits products.
  • Advise Product, Operations, Claims, Underwriting, Actuarial, Distribution, Marketing, and Compliance stakeholders on regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Support the development, launch, and administration of employee benefits and group insurance products.
  • Review policy forms, certificates, riders, marketing and training materials, and business processes for regulatory compliance.
  • Support insurance department filings, reporting, regulatory inquiries, examinations, complaints, appeals, arbitrations, and other regulatory matters.
  • Develop compliance training, policies, procedures, controls, governance processes, and impact assessments for legislative and regulatory developments.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Approximately five years of relevant professional experience or equivalent.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, issue-spotting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical business guidance.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders, learn new subject matter quickly, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with statutory PFML, disability insurance, group insurance, leave management, accident and health insurance, or related employee benefits products.
  • Insurance industry experience at an insurance carrier or in an insurance regulatory law practice.
  • Experience interpreting state and federal insurance laws and regulations and advising on insurance products and operations.
