Software Engineer, AI Governance

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid work location. Roles are currently set up for employment in the US.

Base salary: $163,800–$306,000 per year, plus potential equity and applicable additional compensation.

What you will do

• Build the foundational AI governance layer between software builders and enterprise data.
• Design data access controls across database connectors, including table-, column-, and row-level policies.
• Develop policy modeling, query rewriting, and administrative experiences for configuring security rules.
• Build governance primitives for agent permissions, human authority, and agent observability.
• Create security centers and admin controls that surface risky access patterns, usage analytics, spend, and compliance insights.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and teams across hirify.global on cross-functional platform initiatives.

Requirements

• 2–8 years of professional software engineering experience on high-impact teams.
• Experience owning technically challenging, cross-functional projects from start to finish.
• Strong full-stack fundamentals, including backend systems design, data modeling, and reliable scalable software.
• Clear communication in design documents, code reviews, and cross-functional discussions.
• Commitment to code quality, testing, and solving real customer problems.
• Ability to work in the United States; the role uses a hybrid work location.

Nice to have

• Experience with authorization, access control, or security systems.
• Experience with policy engines, query rewriting, or data governance platforms.
• Familiarity with RBAC, ABAC, Zanzibar, OPA, Cedar, OAuth, SAML, or SCIM.
• Experience designing admin-facing interfaces or platform management tools.
• Startup experience.
