Software Security Engineer, Secure Frameworks

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA. Hybrid policy requires staff to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate shared security foundations from threat modeling through production, on-call support, and adoption.
• Develop cryptographic frameworks, mTLS infrastructure, secure serialization, authorization systems, and workload identity solutions.
• Build and operate a zero-trust access gateway for internal services.
• Design authorization frameworks that enforce consistent least-privilege access across services.
• Partner with product, research, infrastructure, and security teams to integrate frameworks with lower-layer controls.
• Mentor engineers, contribute to hiring, and strengthen security engineering practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building security-relevant production systems and independently leading complex initiatives.
• Strong programming skills in Go, Rust, or Python.
• Deep knowledge of authentication and authorization, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWTs, service-to-service authentication, and policy-based access control.
• Hands-on experience with PKI, X.509, mTLS, workload identity, applied cryptography, key management, and cryptographic library risks.
• Experience shipping and operating high-reliability Kubernetes services across cloud and on-premises environments, including on-call work.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience; clear communication and strong developer-experience focus.

Nice to have

• Experience building security frameworks or libraries adopted across an engineering organization.
• Experience with zero-trust or BeyondCorp-style access gateways, identity-aware proxies, or large-scale mTLS migrations.
• Contributions to open-source cryptographic libraries or authorization systems using policy languages or relationship-based models.
• Familiarity with machine learning infrastructure, including training and inference serving.
