Senior Counsel - Intellectual Property (Payments)

What you will do

• Develop and manage global patent prosecution strategies aligned with technology and product roadmaps.
• Oversee the preparation, filing, and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications.
• Manage outside patent counsel and external intellectual property service providers.
• Draft, review, and negotiate technology licenses, SaaS agreements, development and collaboration agreements, and strategic partnership contracts.
• Advise engineering, product, and business teams on IP ownership, licensing structures, risk allocation, enforcement, and disputes.
• Support IP matters related to mergers, acquisitions, strategic investments, and broader legal process improvements.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
• Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• At least 8 years of experience in patent prosecution and IP counseling.
• Experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal environment.
• Experience managing outside patent counsel and global IP portfolios.
• Position based in Denver, Colorado, United States.

Nice to have

• Technical background in software, computer science, or electrical engineering.
• Experience in technology, payments, financial services, or SaaS.
• Experience with international IP strategy and cross-border transactions.
