Senior Counsel - Patent Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Biotechnology)

Location: United States remote, or onsite at Thousand Oaks, California; Cambridge, Massachusetts; or South San Francisco, California.

Annual salary: $250,321.60–$338,670.40.

What you will do

• Develop, implement, and execute global intellectual property strategies for therapeutic products and product candidates, including small molecules and peptides.
• Work with scientists to identify patentable subject matter involving compositions, polymorphs, formulations, manufacturing processes, and methods of manufacturing.
• Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide and conduct prior art searches.
• Analyze patents and prepare freedom-to-operate opinions and licensing due diligence.
• Negotiate and draft research agreements and advise R&D and business partners on intellectual property matters.
• Support patent litigation, PTAB proceedings, oppositions, and other adversarial matters.

Requirements

• J.D. or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction and registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• At least four years of experience practicing intellectual property law.
• Experience with U.S. and foreign intellectual property law relating to biotechnology at a law firm or biotechnology/pharmaceutical corporation.
• Strong analytical, legal drafting, oral and written communication, leadership, prioritization, and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with legal, R&D, and business teams.

Nice to have

• Ten or more years of patent or intellectual property law experience.
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry.
• Experience with patent litigation, Inter Partes Reviews, Post Grant Reviews, oppositions, or other U.S. and foreign adversarial proceedings.
