Payroll Manager

Location: On-site in either the New York City or San Francisco office, United States

Salary: $150,000–$240,000 base salary, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Run end-to-end payroll for the US, UK, Singapore, and Argentina, including hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and benefits contributions.
• Manage payroll tax, wage and hour, social security, pension, statutory filings, year-end reporting, and payroll for mobile and remote employees.
• Oversee EOR operations for Spain and Germany and manage payroll, benefits, tax, accounting, and local advisory providers.
• Support equity compensation payroll, withholding, reporting, UK EMI matters, sales commissions, and other variable pay.
• Build payroll calendars, SOPs, controls, approvals, reconciliations, audit trails, and expansion processes for new countries.
• Use AI and workflow automation for variance checks, input validation, reconciliations, documentation, and employee-question triage while protecting sensitive data.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of payroll experience, including hands-on US payroll across multiple states and multi-country payroll.
• Experience working with an EOR or PEO and strong knowledge of payroll tax and compliance.
• Familiarity with equity compensation, ISO/NSO, RSUs, withholding, reporting, Carta, commissions, and variable pay structures.
• Solid accounting fundamentals, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and closing work independently.
• Experience with HRIS tools and practical use of AI assistants or automation tools to improve accuracy and reduce manual effort.
• Ability to work on-site from the New York City or San Francisco office.

Nice to have

• Singapore- or Argentina-specific payroll experience.
• Experience at a high-growth startup, establishing payroll in a new country, supporting payroll or equity audits, or managing cross-border mobility and shadow payroll.
• Familiarity with Rippling payroll.
