Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid. Travel to customer sites may be required. Work visa sponsorship is not available.

Base compensation: 120,000–130,000 CAD per year, plus performance-based bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Work directly with customer technical teams to understand workflows, systems, data, constraints, and desired outcomes.
• Design, build, deploy, and stabilize production solutions using Extreme products and platforms.
• Write production software including applications, agents, APIs, integrations, data connectors, workflows, and automation.
• Integrate customer systems, data sources, identity systems, infrastructure, and operational workflows.
• Build automated tests, AI evaluations, CI/CD, deployment automation, infrastructure-as-code, and observability.
• Diagnose complex software, data, networking, infrastructure, and AI issues while identifying reusable patterns and platform gaps.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software development lifecycle experience, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production operations.
• Strong hands-on software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, C#, or C++.
• Experience with distributed, cloud-based, or enterprise systems, APIs, integrations, data, containers, and modern deployment practices.
• Experience debugging complex systems and working directly with customers, partners, or external technical teams.
• Hybrid work in Toronto, Canada, with travel to customer sites as required; existing Canadian work authorization is required because visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice to have

• Experience building LLM-based or agentic systems, including tool use, retrieval, orchestration, context management, evaluation, or production deployment.
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol and modern agent frameworks.
• Experience with networking, network management, telemetry, observability, distributed systems, Kubernetes, containers, infrastructure-as-code, or CI/CD.
• Experience with distributed data platforms, streaming systems, real-time processing, or Forward Deployed Engineering.
