Fullstack AI Engineer

Location: Toronto, Canada; on-site after an initial remote period, with five days per week in the Toronto office. The first month is spent working in New York with travel and accommodation covered.

Salary: CAD $155,000–$230,000 base, plus equity.

What you will do

• Build and maintain the AI agent platform with Python, FastAPI, Restate, and Redis.
• Design APIs and PostgreSQL data models for content creation, document processing, collaboration, and enterprise integrations.
• Develop reliable agent execution with session management, retries, cancellation, failure recovery, isolated environments, and secure context delivery.
• Build React, Next.js, and TypeScript interfaces that display streaming progress and tool activity and support reconnectable sessions.
• Instrument APIs and agent workflows with Datadog and OpenTelemetry, including tracing, logs, metrics, and alerts.
• Partner with product, design, Applied AI, and customer teams to take features from architecture through deployment, monitoring, and improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with production backend services or fullstack applications.
• Strong production experience with Python, FastAPI, asynchronous programming, validation, authentication, and error handling.
• Strong systems fundamentals, including service contracts, data modeling, PostgreSQL, Redis, concurrency, transactions, idempotency, and failure recovery.
• Experience building AI applications or infrastructure, including tool calling, context management, agent sessions, and application/model boundaries.
• Ability to work across React, Next.js, and TypeScript, with attention to usability, accessibility, and performance.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada; work permit sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with Restate or Temporal, sandboxed agent execution, streaming systems, or AI evaluation tools.
• Healthcare or pharma experience.
