Senior Hardware Reverse Engineer (Embedded Security): Reverse engineering advanced embedded systems and high-speed architectures to extract firmware, analyze protocols, and identify hardware and firmware vulnerabilities with an accent on low-level security research, FPGA development, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Focus on reconstructing schematics, exploiting communication channels and firmware memory, and developing prototypes to analyze hardened systems for national security missions.

Location: Herndon, Virginia, United States; onsite

What you will do

  • Reverse engineer complex embedded systems and high-speed architectures to identify functionality and support vulnerability analysis.
  • Extract firmware, analyze communication channels and memory, and research vulnerabilities in hardened systems.
  • Reconstruct schematics from physical boards and develop hardware-in-the-loop environments for device testing and emulation.
  • Perform protocol and signal analysis using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, JTAG, and UART.
  • Rapidly prototype technologies for analyzing and exploiting target systems.
  • Prepare technical reports and contribute to embedded system security research and development projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer/electrical engineering, or a related scientific field, or 5+ years of embedded security industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing for embedded systems, analyzing x86/ARM/AVR binaries, extracting firmware, and integrating bootloaders.
  • Experience creating wiring diagrams and schematics and developing for AMD/Xilinx, Altera, or Microsemi FPGA devices.
  • Programming experience in C, C++, and Python.
  • Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a related technical field.
  • Experience with Lauterbach hardware debuggers, Trace32, Altium, RF systems, and wired or wireless Layer 1 and Layer 2 protocols.
  • IoT product hacking experience and experience leading technical employees or engineering teams.
  • Background working in small R&D teams of researchers, engineers, and scientists.
