Software Engineer (Embedded) I (Aerospace)

Location: Moorpark, California, United States; office and R&D environment with periodic travel to approved flying locations

Salary: $66,500–$101,500 annually

What you will do

• Write and test software integrating sensors and embedded processors into aircraft, payloads, software-defined radios, and robotic systems.
• Design and implement prototype and production software while maintaining configuration control.
• Support system requirements, test plans, diagnostic tools, validation testing, and hardware resource selection.
• Develop rapid prototypes, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and conceptual-level tests within project timelines and budgets.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and support transitions to production and certification.
• Participate in design reviews and improve software efficiency, stability, scalability, and reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace, mechanical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience and demonstrated system troubleshooting ability.
• Proficiency with Python, C, C++11, C++ STL, and/or OpenCL.
• Knowledge of Visual Studio, Eclipse, or similar IDEs and defect-tracking tools.
• Experience with RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, and USB protocols.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR regulations or be eligible for an export license; some contracts may require current U.S. citizenship.

Nice to have

• Experience with STM32 processors and RTOS platforms such as µC/OS or FreeRTOS.
• Experience with Video4Linux, Ubuntu Linux kernel development, Linux/ARM drivers, or Robot Operating System.
• Basic electronics knowledge and laboratory equipment experience.
• Strong analytical, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
