Sr. Counsel - Liability Insurance Defense

Location: Columbus, Georgia, with venues typically covering Southwest and Central Georgia, including Macon, Columbus, and Warner Robins. Regular court events, depositions, appointments, and business travel are required.

Annual base salary: $132,800–$219,100, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage higher-exposure cases and complex litigation matters from inception through trial and appeal.
• Try cases to verdict, negotiate resolutions, and apply advanced litigation techniques.
• Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive legal documents.
• Analyze cases and advise insured clients and Claim partners on file-handling strategies.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants to develop case strategies and prepare testimony.
• Mentor attorneys and legal support staff, provide legal training, and support office and business initiatives.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including insurance defense litigation.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Proven experience handling jury trials, hearings, depositions, dispositive motion arguments, or other court proceedings.
• Advanced oral and written advocacy, legal research, negotiation, and case analysis skills.
• Ability to travel to court proceedings and other appointments; a valid driver’s license may be required depending on location.
