Counsel - Houston, TX (Remote)

Location: Hybrid/remote position associated with Houston, Texas; listed location is Katy, Texas

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions to the Claims Department on liability, damages, and case value.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations under oath, trials, and dispositive hearings.
• Travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Requirements

• 7+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury is required.
• Juris Doctor degree and admission to the Texas Bar are required.
• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas and maintain applicable licensing and continuing legal education requirements.
• Strong legal writing, organization, prioritization, multitasking, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
• Ability to learn and apply substantial technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication experience in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence or email.
