Executive Trial Attorney (Insurance Defense)

Location: Hybrid role based at the Hamilton, Roseland, or Marlton, New Jersey Staff Counsel Office; travel to depositions, court appearances, claims, client meetings, and other events is required, with car travel representing approximately 20% of working time.

Salary: USD $163,000–$211,000 per year, plus incentive plan eligibility.

What you will do

• Independently represent insureds in complex civil defense matters, including commercial general liability, automobile liability, and construction defect cases.
• Prepare and try high-exposure cases through completion before judges, juries, and other tribunals, including appeals and alternative dispute resolution.
• Develop defense strategies, conduct legal research, prepare pleadings and motions, manage discovery, and conduct depositions and pre-trial examinations.
• Communicate with clients, claims personnel, courts, witnesses, and opposing counsel regarding case status and strategy.
• Provide legal opinions and updates to claims, underwriting, and related departments.
• Oversee Senior and Trial Attorneys, support the Managing Attorney with office procedures, and develop training for the Claims Department.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Member in good standing of the New Jersey Bar.
• At least 15 years of legal experience in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Experience trying at least 15 matters to conclusion is preferred; management experience is also preferred.
• Excellent writing, oral communication, and customer service skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and similar software.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing is required.

Nice to have

• Substantial experience in commercial general liability, automobile liability, or construction defect litigation.
• Legal case management software experience.
• Management experience and experience trying at least 15 matters to conclusion.
