Senior Trial Attorney (Insurance Defense)

Location: Costa Mesa, California, with a hybrid schedule requiring at least two days per week in the office; fully remote candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered.

Salary: $170,000–$190,000 per year.

What you will do

• Represent insured clients in discovery, depositions, motions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and appeals.
• Develop litigation strategies with Claims professionals and evaluate liability, damages, exposure, and defense costs.
• Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents.
• Manage a high-volume caseload, negotiate settlements, and maintain accurate case documentation and reporting.
• Provide legal guidance and strategic updates to Claims leadership and internal stakeholders.
• Mentor attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and law clerks, and participate in staff training.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in the California State Bar Association with a clean disciplinary record.
• 10–15 years of litigation experience, including a strong background in insurance defense.
• Extensive experience with discovery, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
• Strong knowledge of California insurance law, civil litigation procedures, and trial advocacy.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, collaboration, and case management skills.

• Significant first-chair trial experience with successful verdict outcomes.
• Experience with case management, litigation support, and electronic filing systems.
• Leadership experience mentoring attorneys and legal support staff.
