Senior Software Engineer (SD-WAN)

Location: United States of America; hybrid work with an average requirement of 2 days per week from an HPE office. The stated salary range applies to California.

Salary: USD 136,500–276,500 annual base salary in California; variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain packet-processing and routing software components for an SD-WAN platform.
• Implement routing protocols and network control-plane functionality.
• Develop multi-threaded, high-performance software for embedded networking platforms.
• Integrate third-party networking and security modules and prototype early-stage features.
• Debug complex networking and system-level issues, including performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with QA, systems, and product teams to deliver production-ready features.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in embedded or systems software development.
• Strong programming skills in C; C++ and Python are advantageous.
• Experience building multi-threaded applications on Linux or similar systems.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP and L2/L3 concepts.
• Hands-on experience with packet-processing systems or dataplane development, plus strong debugging, system design, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, or IS-IS.
• Familiarity with Linux kernel networking and system-level internals.
• Knowledge of SDN and SD-WAN architectures.
• Experience designing high-performance, scalable, or distributed systems and tuning production environments.
• Exposure to VPN, IPsec, firewalling, or other network security technologies.
