Principal Electrical Engineer (Electric Utilities)

Location: Onsite in Danville or San Ramon, California; selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory. Travel is typically 5%–10% for assignments.

Salary range: $155,000–$265,000 per year, with a midpoint of $210,000.

What you will do

• Lead technical efforts, make independent decisions on complex engineering issues, and mentor engineering teams.
• Develop arc-flash and grounding safety programs, including substation switchyard grounding analysis and temporary protective grounding procedures.
• Perform high-voltage and high-current analysis and investigate electrical incidents.
• Provide engineering support for live-line work procedures, substation design, compliance, and related utility programs.
• Develop, evaluate, and deploy new technologies while identifying innovation and cost-reduction opportunities.
• Scope, schedule, and budget projects; manage client relationships and contribute to industry standards, publications, committees, and conferences.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a discipline related to the assignment.
• At least 10 years of related engineering experience.
• Residence within PG&E’s service territory is required.
• Experience or knowledge in electrical utilities, power system studies, planning, operations, design, equipment specification, testing, and procedure development.
• Strong investigative, analytical, organizational, communication, presentation, and quality assurance skills.
• Project management, team leadership, and customer service experience.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license.
• Leadership in standards development and participation in industry organizations.
• Published work advancing the utility sector.
• Familiarity with technical testing technologies.
