TL;DR
Design Engineer (AI): Owning and evolving the Writer Design System while designing and building production-quality React interfaces with an accent on accessibility, animation, and AI-assisted design-to-code workflows. Focus on architecting reusable UI primitives, synchronizing Figma, Storybook, and documentation, and shaping system adoption across the engineering organization.
Location: Hybrid, based in the San Francisco, Chicago, Austin, New York City, Seattle, or London hubs

What you will do
- Own, maintain, and improve the Writer Design System for human developers and AI coding agents.
- Design and build production-quality UI components and features from concept through launch.
- Deliver polished design-led work, including micro-interactions, animation, and brand-focused product details.
- Architect reusable primitives and keep Figma, documentation, libraries, and Storybook examples aligned.
- Improve accessibility, motion quality, consistency, and front-end craft across design system components.
- Partner with designers, product managers, and engineering leads to increase adoption and establish design-to-code practices.
Requirements
- 4–8+ years of experience building production frontends with TypeScript and React.
- Experience owning a system, platform, or product surface end-to-end and driving adoption across an engineering organization.
- Expert-level Figma skills, including auto-layout, variants, variables, and Code Connect.
- Proficiency with Framer Motion, GSAP, and Lottie for web-based animation, plus strong knowledge of animation principles.
- Experience with AI product surfaces such as tool-call interfaces, streaming responses, agent states, and dynamic UI rendering.
- Portfolio, side projects, GitHub, or production work demonstrating systems-level design engineering and a strong commitment to craft.
