Congressional Reporter (Healthcare)

Location: Washington, DC, United States; onsite

Salary: $65,000–$70,500 per year, commensurate with experience and skill level.

What you will do

• Cover the House of Representatives, including committee hearings, press conferences, and floor votes.
• Report on healthcare legislation, efforts to improve the healthcare system, and administration actions.
• Write spot news, short and long-form briefs, features, and stories for The Hill’s website and newspaper.
• Recognize breaking news and emerging trends affecting the political landscape.
• Build sources that generate daily scoops for digital platforms and newsletters.
• Collaborate with Congress, White House, campaign, and policy teams; appear on television or at Hill events to explain complex issues.

Requirements

• Degree in journalism or a related field.
• Ability to cover healthcare and a broad range of public policies, with capacity to extend coverage to the Senate.
• Strong news judgment and ability to produce accurate, clean journalism on tight deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively and adjust schedules and assignments as business needs evolve.
• Onsite work in Washington, DC is required.

Nice to have

• Previous reporting experience in a metro or national media environment.
• Familiarity with Google Trends, SEO, and real-time analytics.
