Packaging Engineer (Advanced Manufacturing)

Location: Sanford, North Carolina, United States. Onsite five days per week; the role may be based temporarily in flex offices during the facility transition. High travel of 50–75% may be required during construction planning, supplier reviews, equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and production ramp-up. US domestic relocation is available.

Salary: $112,710–$169,060 per year.

What you will do

• Design and develop packaging solutions for products, service parts, and manufacturing components.
• Align current packaging with future needs for a new startup manufacturing facility.
• Lead optimization projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, sustainability, and cost reduction.
• Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, engineering teams, suppliers, and logistics providers on packaging strategy and implementation.
• Integrate packaging solutions with AMRs, AGVs, ASRS, and other automated systems.
• Lead packaging validation, transit testing, environmental simulation, performance measurement, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in packaging, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain engineering, or related technical work.
• Knowledge of sustainable packaging, returnable packaging design, automated packaging technologies, and packaging standards.
• Ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, analyze problems, and make informed technical decisions.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, heavy equipment, automotive, industrial products, or large-scale distribution operations is preferred.
• Visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Design for Manufacturing & Assembly.
• Exposure to a startup manufacturing operation.
• Experience with RFID-based returnable container tracking systems.
