Sr. Engineering Manager, Core Services - Slack (Go)

Location: Atlanta, Georgia, United States

Salary: $172,500–$260,100 annually; selected San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas: $207,800–$285,800 annually.

What you will do

• Own the technical direction and roadmap for edge caches, realtime services, Enterprise Key Management, International Data Residency, and image proxying and uploads.
• Lead the multi-system migration from Flannel to Loom while maintaining reliability for millions of users.
• Drive delivery, sprint planning, launches, incident follow-ups, operational sustainability, and investment planning.
• Own on-call operations and incident management for Tier 0 services, including rotations, production triage, runbooks, alerting, and operational tooling.
• Partner with Product, Sales, Compliance, Security, AWS, and infrastructure teams on dependencies, audits, regional launches, and risks.
• Hire and develop engineers, manage performance and capacity, control AWS costs, and promote AI development tooling.

Requirements

• 5+ years leading engineering teams building and operating high-scale, highly available backend infrastructure or distributed systems.
• Senior-level backend engineering experience with strong fundamentals in architecture, caching, distributed systems, observability, reliability, and system design.
• Experience managing Tier 0 or Tier 1 services, on-call rotations, incident response, and operational improvements.
• Experience with realtime messaging or event-driven architectures and multi-quarter migrations or platform evolution projects.
• Experience balancing reliability, feature work, cost, and compliance while communicating with engineers and executives.
• Experience managing engineers across multiple time zones and building high-performing teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go or Java at scale.
• AWS infrastructure and multi-region architectures.
• Kubernetes and container-based deployments.
• FedRAMP/NIST-regulated environments, Enterprise Key Management, data residency, or compliance infrastructure.
• Edge caching, CDN, API gateway, system deprecation, or migration experience.
