Engineering Manager, Frontier AI Infrastructure - Public Sector

Location: Hybrid; must support work 3–4 days a week from the DC office

Salary: $213,600–$267,000 USD annually, plus potential equity and benefits

What you will do

• Lead, coach, hire, onboard, and support the career development of a small engineering team.
• Set technical direction and quarterly priorities for the model inference layer.
• Design and implement secure, scalable backend systems using cloud-native AI infrastructure.
• Own sprint planning, on-call rotations, incident reviews, postmortems, and service health goals.
• Partner with Product, Program, Deployed Engineering, cloud vendors, customers, and government stakeholders.
• Stay hands-on by reviewing pull requests, debugging production issues, and writing code.

Requirements

• At least 1–2+ years of direct people management experience leading software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Strong hands-on individual contributor background and willingness to remain active in the code.
• Active Secret clearance required, with the ability and willingness to obtain TS/SCI with CI Poly.
• Experience with secure, scalable backend systems and cloud-native technologies.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers, vendors, and government stakeholders.
• Ability to work from the DC office 3–4 days per week.

Nice to have

• Full-stack development experience and experience delivering software to air-gapped or isolated environments.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of federal compliance frameworks such as Cloud SRG, FedRAMP, or STIG Benchmarks.
• Experience building or scaling engineering teams and establishing engineering standards.
