Engineering Manager, Frontier AI Infrastructure - Public Sector

Location: Washington, DC office; must support work from the office 3–4 days per week

What you will do

• Lead, coach, hire, onboard, and develop a small team of software engineers.
• Set technical direction and quarterly priorities for the model inference layer.
• Design and implement secure, scalable backend systems using cloud-native AI infrastructure.
• Run sprint planning, on-call rotations, incident reviews, and postmortems.
• Partner with Product, Program, Deployed Engineering, cloud vendors, customers, and government stakeholders.
• Review pull requests, debug production issues, and contribute meaningful code as a hands-on manager.

Requirements

• At least 1–2+ years of direct people management experience leading software engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on individual contributor background and willingness to continue coding.
• Active Secret clearance and ability and willingness to obtain TS/SCI with CI Poly required.
• Experience with secure, scalable software systems and complex technical problem solving.
• Strong communication skills for working with cross-functional teams, customers, vendors, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work from the DC office 3–4 days per week.

Nice to have

• Full-stack development experience with modern web frameworks, programming languages, and databases.
• Experience delivering software to air-gapped or isolated environments.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of Cloud SRG, FedRAMP, STIG Benchmarks, and other federal compliance requirements.
• Experience scaling engineering teams and establishing code review, testing, and on-call standards.
