Staff Electrical Engineer, Energy Storage BoP

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; primarily on-site, with a potential hybrid arrangement depending on experience. Some travel is expected.

What you will do

• Perform and review balance-of-plant power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, transformer energization, motor starting, harmonics, grounding, and battery sizing.
• Develop, review, and validate protective relay coordination studies, relay settings, configuration files, and protection logic.
• Specify transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, inverters, generators, capacitor banks, reactors, surge arresters, current transformers, cables, and UPS systems.
• Build and maintain detailed AC and DC power system models using ETAP, SKM, and/or EasyPower.
• Work with the energy storage team to establish system models and study assumptions.
• Prepare engineering reports, study summaries, and design documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience performing power system analysis, including protection and coordination studies.
• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a power systems specialization.
• Expert proficiency in ETAP; strong experience with fault calculations, symmetrical components, arc flash, cable sizing, and protective device coordination.
• Hands-on experience with SEL protective relays, acSELerator QuickSet, relay configuration, protection logic, and MV/HV protection testing and commissioning.
• Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and related electrical industry standards.
• Experience with power system tools such as SKM, EasyPower, CYMCAP, CDEGS, ASPEN, CAPE, PSCAD, or PSS®E is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Experience with battery energy storage systems, inverter-based generation, or data center electrical systems.
• Experience with Omicron test equipment.
• Familiarity with Python for analysis automation or data processing.
