TL;DR
Senior Renewable Studies Engineer (NERC Compliance) (Renewable Energy/Power Systems): Performing electrical power system modeling, renewable facility studies, and NERC compliance work for solar, wind, battery storage, and substation projects with an accent on short-circuit, load-flow, protection, dynamic, harmonic, grounding, and interconnection studies. Focus on leading client-facing study scopes, establishing methodologies, reviewing QA/QC, troubleshooting study software, and supporting commissioning and field testing.

Location: Fully remote or local/in-office in Lakewood, Colorado; applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States. Occasional field work and 5–15% travel may be required.

Salary: $100,000–$165,000 per year. The detailed salary range is based on the Denver, Colorado labor market.

What you will do

  • Perform electrical system modeling and studies for solar, wind, battery storage, collection systems, and substations.
  • Develop short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, protection coordination, dynamic, transient, harmonic, grounding, ampacity, and interconnection compliance studies.
  • Lead client-facing renewable studies scopes and deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Review studies and provide QA/QC support for renewable studies and design teams.
  • Establish study templates, methodologies, and best practices while serving as a subject-matter expert for at least one study software platform.
  • Support regulatory compliance, equipment and relay testing, troubleshooting, startup, commissioning, and detailed electrical design activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution; an electric power focus is preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • FE certification required; PE preferred.
  • Required proficiency with PowerFactory and ETAP, plus relevant power-system modeling and analysis software.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and client communication skills.
  • Current authorization to work full-time in the United States is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with EasyPower, SKM Power Tools, Aspen, WindMil, CAPE, CDEGS, WinIGS, PSS®E, PSLF, CYMCAP, or PSCAD.
  • PE license and additional power-system design or commissioning experience.
