TL;DR
Staff Electrical Engineer (Power Systems): Designing, constructing, commissioning, and supporting power plant facilities across the USA with an accent on power generation assets, high- and medium-voltage equipment, protection and control systems, and IEC 61850 integration. Focus on leading front-end engineering, troubleshooting electrical failures, performing fault and coordination studies, and improving infrastructure uptime.

Location: Denver, CO, United States; on-site. Travel to project sites is approximately 20%.

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 per year plus bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers.

What you will do

  • Lead front-end engineering for capital projects, including power system layout and sizing.
  • Review one-lines, wiring diagrams, schematics, electrical studies, control narratives, and vendor drawings for compliance with project specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance during construction and commissioning of power plant assets.
  • Support field operations with electrical troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and power infrastructure optimization.
  • Specify and integrate 34.5 kV GIS, GSU transformers, MV/LV switchgear, MCCs, generator controls, and related power generation equipment.
  • Implement IEC 61850 GOOSE and MMS protocols and perform protection, control coordination, and fault analysis studies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and at least 6 years of industrial electrical engineering experience.
  • Expert working knowledge of NEC application to industrial installations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of generator physics and operations.
  • Proficiency in protection and control coordination studies and fault analysis.
  • Knowledge of the IEC 61850 standard and ability to collaborate with engineering and operations personnel.
  • Ability to work on-site in Denver, United States and travel approximately 20% to project sites.

Nice to have

  • Experience with simple- and combined-cycle turbine generators, reciprocating engines, microgrid controllers, and islanded system synchronization.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, EMT studies, ETAP or SKM, and utility-scale interconnects.
  • Professional Engineering license in Texas or Colorado.
  • Power generation or oil and gas industry experience.
