Director, Security (Media Security)

Location: New York City, United States. Required on-site full-time at an hirify.global-designated worksite; extensive travel and 24/7 emergency availability are required.

Salary: $120,000–$165,000 per year, with bonus and long-term incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead security logistics and physical security operations for News personnel, spaces, and remote newsgathering activities.
• Assess security needs, select vendors, travel to news remotes, coordinate deployments, and conduct post-operation reviews.
• Coordinate News Security responses to dynamic and large-scale news stories across distributed teams.
• Develop security guidelines, training requirements, policies, tools, and resources for News employees.
• Coordinate with Global Security Operations, Cyber Security, the Global Response & Intelligence Center, Business Continuity, Crisis Management, HR, and Legal.
• Manage vendor contracts, budgets, invoices, security action plans, incident reporting, and process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Significant professional experience in media or news security, corporate security, military, law enforcement, or a similar field.
• Experience managing budgets, stakeholders, external vendors, and security operations.
• Knowledge of deployment planning, vulnerability and privacy assessments, intrusion detection, incident response, and security policy creation.
• Must be willing to remain on-call and available 24/7 for emergencies.
• Must be willing to travel, sometimes on short notice, and work full-time on-site.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Nice to have

• News or media safety and security experience, particularly HEFAT experience.
• Knowledge of threats to journalists and media organizations in the United States.
• Experience supporting senior executives or high-profile talent, developing departmental strategy, and managing concurrent projects.
