Associate General Counsel (PropTech)

Location: Remote from specified US hiring locations: Washington DC, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or Washington. New York City is preferred with a hybrid schedule of two office days per week.

Salary: $225,000–$250,000 per year for New York City-based employees; base pay may vary outside New York City. Stock options and other incentive pay may also be available.

What you will do

• Advise across commercial, regulatory, real estate, mortgage, title, and closing matters.
• Negotiate and structure complex commercial contracts, partnerships, and joint ventures.
• Support product and service expansion into additional states while developing compliant policies, controls, and operating structures.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to design customer-facing products while balancing innovation, growth, and legal risk.
• Engage with state regulators and manage regulatory inquiries, examinations, and outside law firms.
• Lead the continued development of data privacy and information security policies, with potential involvement in financings and strategic M&A.

Requirements

• 7–12 years of commercial and/or regulatory legal experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house roles.
• Strong experience with commercial contracts, commercial negotiations, partnerships, and joint ventures.
• Experience with data privacy regimes and implementing related policies and procedures.
• Ability to navigate evolving and overlapping regulations, work independently, prioritize risks, and collaborate across functions.
• State bar admission in good standing.

Nice to have

• Experience with residential real estate brokerage or mortgage lending laws and regulations.
• Prior experience at a technology-focused real estate brokerage or mortgage company.
