Staff Software Engineering - Vehicle Data Platform (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week in the office in Markham or Oshawa, Ontario, Canada

What you will do

• Set technical direction for vehicle control-plane and data-plane software, including configuration distribution, streaming, file transfer, and lifecycle management.
• Design fleet-scale coordination capabilities for thousands of vehicles, including device identity, version management, remote diagnostics, and configuration delivery.
• Define the architecture and adoption approach for SDKs, APIs, unified logging, observability, and software delivery across Android, Linux, and QNX.
• Design, implement, review, and optimize production software running on vehicle ECUs with constrained CPU, memory, storage, bandwidth, and intermittent connectivity.
• Integrate vehicle software with Azure, AWS S3, Firestore, and other cloud services while maintaining reliability, performance, privacy, and security standards.
• Lead cross-organizational initiatives, incident response, root-cause analysis, technical communication, open-source contributions, and mentoring for senior and junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of hands-on development experience with C, C++, and related languages.
• Professional experience developing software for Linux, Android, and QNX platforms.
• Experience with distributed systems, configuration management, large-scale data pipelines, fleet management or control-plane systems, and fleet-scale logging or telemetry.
• Experience delivering SDKs or libraries, including API design, versioning, adoption support, production troubleshooting, and field support.
• Knowledge of network communication and security protocols, including mTLS and certificate-based device identity, plus familiarity with AUTOSAR standards and cross-organizational technical leadership.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, XCP, OpenTelemetry, protobuf, gRPC, CI/CD, and automation tools.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, device-management services, Firestore, OTA, remote configuration, or fleet-management systems.
• Automotive experience with ECU architectures, SoC platforms, diagnostics, failure analysis, crash analysis, or driver- and HMI-initiated data capture flows.
• Contributions to Fluent Bit or other data-intensive open-source projects.
