Substation Design Engineer (Power Systems)

What you will do

• Plan, design, and support delivery of electrical substation projects ranging from 12kV to 345kV.
• Develop physical layouts, one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Create engineering design packages aligned with hirify.global Ohio, IEEE, and NERC standards.
• Prepare technical specifications, evaluate vendor proposals, and support procurement activities.
• Provide technical guidance to field operations and construction teams during construction, maintenance, and commissioning.
• Support capital projects, improve engineering standards and design databases, and participate in storm restoration and emergency response.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Knowledge of electrical substation equipment, power systems, utility infrastructure, and engineering design principles.
• Understanding of safe design practices and commitment to workplace safety.
• Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Bentley MicroStation or comparable CAD/design software.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel.
