Technical Development Principal Scientist (Cell Therapy Process Development)

Location: South San Francisco or Oceanside, California, United States; onsite role. Relocation benefits are not available.

Salary: $120,800–$224,300 per year, based on the primary California location.

What you will do

• Design and execute cell culture experiments to investigate cell biology, process consistency, and raw material impacts.
• Apply advanced technologies to improve cell culture performance and establish productive platform processes.
• Lead technology transfer initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop robust cell-based therapies.
• Provide technical guidance on media preparation, raw material assessments, supply chain activities, and process development.
• Anticipate and resolve complex technical issues while driving simplification and continuous improvement.
• Establish scientific thought leadership through publications, conference presentations, and scientific meetings.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in biological sciences, chemical engineering, or a related discipline, with 5+ years of relevant process development and cell culture experience.
• Strong technical leadership, organizational, strategic problem-solving, and project execution skills.
• Experience with culture, expansion, and functional assessment of hESCs, iPSCs, MSCs, or RPEs.
• Expertise in bioreactor process development, including process control strategies, P&ID requirements, and operational set-points for stirred-tank bioreactors.
• Experience scaling adherent cell lines in suspension.
• Strong collaboration, stakeholder management, written communication, and scientific presentation skills.
