Substation Electrician-General Construction, Journey Level (All Regions)

Location: Onsite positions across PG&E's California service territory, with travel and transfers to new headquarters required upon request.

Starting wage: $68.56 per hour, subject to collectively bargained wage rates and increases.

Electric Operations supports the safe and reliable delivery of electric service through planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, asset management, restoration, and emergency response.

What you will do

• Review, verify, and modify electrical prints and schematics; lay out materials and order supplies.
• Install and remove high-voltage equipment, overhead and underground electrical systems, conduit, steel structures, control panels, metering, protection systems, and air switches.
• Perform safety preparation, including high-voltage protective grounding, rigging, wire pulling, and equipment staging.
• Operate qualified construction equipment, forklifts, company vehicles, and job-site equipment.
• Excavate and restore work areas, remove debris, and maintain clean and safe substations.
• Work extended hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required.

Requirements

• At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
• Valid California Class C driver's license; a California CDL Class A permit or equivalent is subject to the 150% driver/vehicle ratio.
• Successful completion of a union-sanctioned JATC Inside Wireman Electrician Apprenticeship is required.
• Must be willing to travel and transfer throughout PG&E's service territory, with no guarantee regarding time away from home.
• Ability to work in extreme weather, remote locations, varying schedules, and environments with potential exposure to wildlife and insects.
• Ability to wear required PPE and pass the Physical Test Battery, Work Orientation Inventory-Physical/Technical Driving, and Electrician Assessment.

Nice to have

• 3–5 years of journey-level commercial or industrial electrical construction experience.
• PG&E construction or utility experience.
• Instrumentation and control, motor control, electrical substation, power generation, high-voltage, testing equipment, and troubleshooting experience.

Hiring process

• Employees must qualify on prerequisite tests before applying and complete secondary tests before interviewing.
• Provisional hires must pass the provisional training plan within 12 months of hire.
