District Planning Specialist (Electrical Distribution)

Location: Hybrid role based at the Santa Monica Service Center; employees are generally required to work and reside in California. The position includes up to 25% travel and fieldwork throughout the SCE service territory, with possible extended assignments at alternate work locations. Relocation does not apply.

Salary: $41.92–$62.84 per hour.

What you will do

• Develop construction plans, drawings, circuit maps, electrical distribution designs, calculations, and cost estimates.
• Plan overhead and underground distribution projects for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
• Manage multiple work orders and projects, monitoring scope, schedules, budgets, risks, issues, and escalations.
• Coordinate with customers, engineers, agencies, governmental bodies, and internal departments.
• Perform field inspections, gather planning data, and verify compliance with approved plans.
• Provide technical support for licensing and certification proceedings involving distribution and transmission infrastructure.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in electrical utility distribution, transmission, telecommunication design or construction, or an engineering discipline.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to work with competing priorities, maintain accuracy, make decisions with minimal supervision, and collaborate across teams.
• Ability to read or create simple distribution or technical drawings.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement from California and report to the designated SCE facility.
• Availability for up to 25% travel and fieldwork throughout the SCE service territory.

Nice to have

• Experience with CAD, GIS, or similar design systems.
• Knowledge of engineering principles, construction standards, utility practices, pole loading, drafting, mapping, mathematics, science, or IT.
• Experience with underground utility design, project management, customer service resolution, or technical stakeholder coordination.
• Completion of a Planner Utility Certification Program.
