Senior Metal Fabricator (Aerospace)

Location: Onsite at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California

Salary: $65–$70 per hour

The role supports precision fabrication and refurbishment work for the ArcJet facility at NASA Ames Research Center.

What you will do

• Design, establish, and equip a development shop, including machining and inspection equipment procurement and integration.
• Develop machining, inspection, refurbishment, and manufacturing documentation processes.
• Fabricate proof-of-concept components and required connecting hardware.
• Refurbish used components to extend service life while meeting NASA quality standards.
• Prepare detailed manufacturing work instructions and support engineering design, configuration control, and quality reviews.
• Ensure work meets NASA safety, precision, and documentation requirements.

Requirements

• Onsite work at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California.
• Extensive experience with precision machining of complex metallic components.
• Proficiency in CNC machining, manual machining, and inspection methods.
• Ability to design and document manufacturing processes and establish shop workflows.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to participate in engineering and quality reviews.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-temperature, high-current, or aerospace hardware.
• Experience in aerospace, R&D environments, or government facilities.
• Familiarity with thermal protection system components or arc jet facility hardware.
• Experience fabricating or refurbishing electrodes or specialty plasma hardware.
