TL;DR
Supplier Quality Engineer (Mechanical) (Aerospace): Driving supplier qualification, manufacturing quality, and zero-defect production for advanced satellite hardware with an accent on vendor audits, GD&T, inspection systems, and manufacturing readiness. Focus on leading DFM reviews, establishing supplier phase gates, developing incoming quality controls, and solving root-cause and corrective-action challenges across a traveling supplier base.

Location: San Francisco, United States. The role requires travel to suppliers 40% or more of the time and requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status.

Base salary: $100,000–$150,000 USD per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Define product specifications for raw materials, testing, inspection, GD&T/CMM, and workmanship with Product Engineering.
  • Establish and execute vendor qualification processes, including onsite audits, technical assessments, and qualification builds.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing reviews and serve as the primary manufacturing and quality contact for vendors.
  • Establish supplier phase gates for new product introduction, including Critical Design Reviews and Manufacturing Readiness Reviews.
  • Develop incoming quality controls for thermal and electromechanical assemblies, RF passives, and machined metal components, including supplier documentation reviews.
  • Lead root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and qualification of rework, repair, and rebuild dispositions with suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, physics, or a similar technical field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, or supply chain engineering.
  • Background in GD&T, mechanical and thermal engineering, and manufacturing processes including CNC, forging, welding, and assembly.
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel 40% or more as needed.
  • U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status is required.

Nice to have

  • Aerospace or automotive manufacturing experience, including AS9100, IATF 16949, or quality management systems.
  • Experience with Cpk/Ppk, SPC, DOE, and GR&R statistical tools.
  • Electronics manufacturing experience with PCBA and harnesses, including IPC-600, IPC-610, and IPC-620.
