Senior Supplier Quality Engineer (Mechanical)

Location: San Francisco, United States. The role involves traveling to suppliers in different regions 40% or more of the time.

Base salary: $145,000–$220,000 USD per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Drive the supplier base toward zero defects and support the scale-up of satellite manufacturing.
• Define product specifications covering raw materials, testing, inspection, GD&T, CMM, and workmanship with Product Engineering.
• Establish and execute vendor qualification processes, including onsite audits, technical assessments, and qualification builds.
• Lead Design for Manufacturing reviews and act as the main manufacturing and quality contact for vendors.
• Establish supplier phase gates for new product introduction, including Critical Design Reviews and Manufacturing Readiness Reviews.
• Develop incoming quality controls for thermal and electromechanical assemblies, RF passives, and machined metal components; lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, physics, or a similar technical field.
• At least 6 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, or supply chain engineering.
• Experience with GD&T, mechanical and thermal engineering, and manufacturing processes including CNC, forging, welding, and assembly.
• Ability to work extended hours and travel 40% or more as needed.
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status is required.

Nice to have

• Aerospace or automotive manufacturing experience, including AS9100, IATF 16949, or quality management systems.
• Experience with Cpk, Ppk, SPC, DOE, and GR&R statistical tools.
• Experience with electronics manufacturing, PCBA, harnesses, and IPC 600, IPC 610, or IPC 620 standards.
