Communications Manager, Safeguards (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid attendance in an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time

Annual salary: $265,000–$295,000 USD

What you will do

• Develop communication strategies explaining Safeguards and product safety work to everyday users and broader audiences.
• Plan and manage crisis communications while advising stakeholders on potential issues and risks.
• Own communications for model launches, product features, child safety, well-being, and mental health initiatives.
• Lead cross-functional campaigns across safeguards, research, product, policy, and legal teams.
• Create messaging for major announcements and milestones that connects with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Build journalist relationships and oversee executive interviews and speaking engagements.

Requirements

• 8+ years of communications experience, ideally with a high-growth technology company and consumer-facing products.
• Strong record of developing proactive communications campaigns for diverse audiences.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into compelling, accessible messaging.
• Excellent media relations, issues management, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with research teams and cross-functional technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience in AI, technology policy, trust and safety communications, user safety, or research-driven environments.
• Background working with researchers, engineers, or product developers.
• Experience with crisis communications, sensitive public issues, emerging technologies, or controversial technical topics.
• Understanding of the AI safety, security, or responsible technology ecosystem.
