Design Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, California, five days a week, Monday–Friday

Salary: $150,000–$215,000 base salary per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead the visual language, interaction foundations, components, and patterns for the company-wide design system across desktop and mobile.
• Create documentation, contribution models, and governance for system adoption and evolution.
• Define reusable interaction patterns for directing, trusting, reviewing, and collaborating with AI agents.
• Partner with a Design Systems Engineer to develop AI-assisted workflows using coding and design agents.
• Collaborate with product teams on complex, data-dense enterprise workflows and turn solutions into reusable patterns.

Requirements

• 4+ years designing and shipping production B2B software, including meaningful ownership of a cross-team design system.
• Strong visual craft, systems thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Hands-on experience with Figma libraries, tokens, variables, components, and documentation.
• Understanding of frontend component APIs, responsive behavior, accessibility, states, and implementation tradeoffs.
• Experience enabling other designers and shipping iteratively using user feedback and testing.
• Authorization to work in the United States is required for United States applicants; United Kingdom applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Nice to have

• Experience using Cursor, Claude, Figma AI, or similar coding and design agents.
• Experience measuring design-system adoption or adherence, or leading large-scale component migrations.
