Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA, or San Diego, CA

Salary: $485,500–$571,000 annually for Vice President roles in Redwood City, CA; $446,900–$525,800 annually for Vice President roles in San Diego, CA.

What you will do

• Create and implement global patent portfolio strategies protecting scientific innovation and therapeutic modalities.
• Develop intellectual property strategies for inventions at the intersection of AI and biology.
• Manage trademark, copyright, and trade secret clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and protection.
• Direct IP litigation and adversarial proceedings.
• Lead IP due diligence, licensing, acquisition, contract drafting, and transaction negotiations.
• Build and lead the IP function, including hiring, development, outside counsel management, budgets, and operational standards.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
• Registered to practice before the USPTO.
• Admitted to the California Bar or able to qualify as Registered In-House Counsel.
• 15+ years of progressive intellectual property experience, including significant in-house leadership experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech sector.
• Deep knowledge of global pharmaceutical R&D, regulatory, manufacturing, and commercial activities, plus experience leading teams and managing outside counsel and spend.
