VP Legal, Corporate & Compliance

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States

Base salary: $280,000–$320,000 annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, develop, and scale the corporate legal team under the Chief Legal Officer.
• Drive corporate governance, entity management, record-keeping, and compliance programs across the U.S. operating company and global legal entities.
• Advise on labor and employment matters, intellectual property protection, regulatory compliance, data protection, export compliance, and risk mitigation.
• Build, redesign, and automate legal processes using legal technology and AI, including scalable templates and self-service resources.
• Establish KPIs, measure program effectiveness, and continuously improve corporate legal operations.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Finance, HR, IT, and executive stakeholders on strategic business initiatives, disputes, investigations, litigation, and M&A support.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• 12–15+ years of progressive legal experience, including in-house experience at a technology, software, or SaaS company.
• Experience building and leading corporate legal teams and managing personnel.
• Deep expertise in corporate governance, compliance, labor and employment, and intellectual property.
• Experience building and automating legal processes, implementing legal technology, and applying data-driven program metrics.
• Working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, cybersecurity, data privacy, FCPA, export compliance, records retention, M&A, corporate filings, and board governance.

Nice to have

• National law firm experience before moving in-house.
• Public company and SEC reporting experience.
• Experience with AI governance frameworks, emerging legal technology, cybersecurity, identity security, or enterprise SaaS.
• Experience supporting ESG programs and managing outside counsel relationships and budgets.
• Familiarity with privileged access management or adjacent identity security concepts.
