Staff Software Engineer (Insurance Platform)

Location: Offices in the United States; the posting does not specify a required candidate location or work format.

Base pay: $212,000–$265,000 USD annually, with potential bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Design the architecture for AirCover insurance policies, coverage, enrollment, regional rules, and new product expansion.
• Lead experimentation systems for insurance offers, pricing, placement, attach rate, and downstream outcomes.
• Build and operate highly available distributed backend services in a regulated, multi-region environment.
• Lead engineers across teams and partner with Product, Data Science, Data Engineering, Legal, and platform teams.
• Set technical direction, review designs and code, improve production operations, and mentor engineers.
• Apply emerging technologies, including LLMs, to improve automation and host and guest experiences.

Requirements

• 9+ years of relevant software development experience, or 7+ years with an advanced degree.
• Expertise in large-scale backend systems and service-oriented architectures, with experience in Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or a similar language.
• Experience designing multi-region or multi-tenant platforms with configurable, rules-driven behavior.
• Experience with A/B testing, experimentation systems, conversion or attach-rate optimization, relational databases, and SQL.
• Experience designing and operating high-performance systems with reliable monitoring, logging, privacy, auditability, and data integrity.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, plus strong technical leadership and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in insurance, payments, fintech, or another regulated domain.
• Experience with an advanced degree.
