Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid work with in-office expectations near hirify.global offices

Salary: $165,000–$250,000 annualized, potentially higher based on proficiency level and geography.

What you will do

• Develop and improve backend services and engineering frameworks.
• Build and deploy flexible backend systems at scale using Python/Django, Kotlin/JVM, SQL, GraphQL, Redis, Postgres, Kafka, and AWS.
• Collaborate with product management, data science, and design to define and deliver impactful features.
• Contribute to product planning, roadmap development, customer understanding, and rigorous analysis of feature impact.
• Work with engineering teams in Toronto, San Francisco, and other locations.
• Participate in in-person trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, team-building activities, and relationship-building initiatives.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• Strong coding ability in at least one programming language; Python or Kotlin experience is preferred.
• Experience building and deploying flexible backend systems at scale.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments and eagerness to learn new technologies and apply AI tools.
