Staff Backend Software Engineer (Databricks AI)

Salary: $166,000–$225,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Build infrastructure powering AI applications, model training, model serving, vector search, and developer platforms.
• Improve reliability, latency, and efficiency for distributed AI workloads.
• Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and machine learning teams to deliver end-to-end experiences.
• Shape how developers and data scientists build and interact with AI systems.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering.
• Strong programming skills in Scala, Go, or Python.
• Experience with distributed systems, scalable APIs, or cloud-native infrastructure.
• Familiarity with service-oriented architecture, deployment pipelines, and system observability.
• Strong product ownership mindset and focus on building effective solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time serving, machine learning infrastructure, or GPU orchestration.
• Exposure to SageMaker, Vertex AI, or Azure ML.
• Contributions to open-source projects such as MLflow, PyTorch, or Ray.
• Experience building developer platforms or internal tools for AI workflows.
