Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card Loan Platform)

Location: Remote within the United States; occasional in-person work at an Affirm office and an in-person onboarding experience may be required.

Base pay: $195,000–$255,000 for CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $173,000–$233,000 for all other U.S. states.

What you will do

• Drive technical strategy, project planning, prioritization, and execution across product, technical, and business goals.
• Design and develop large-scale, highly available services, including APIs and data models for microservice and event-driven architectures.
• Partner with Product, Analytics, Design, Legal, and Accounting to define card loan attribution and lifecycle requirements.
• Analyze complex technical issues, optimize existing code, and improve system health, robustness, and scalability.
• Mentor junior engineers, lead technical discussions and design reviews, and promote engineering best practices through code review.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development or engineering experience with strong system design and architecture knowledge.
• Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, or similar modern programming languages.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, web frameworks, and RESTful API development.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• A related Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
