Staff Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States; hybrid with at least 3 days in the office. The role requires 5–10% travel and is performed in an office setting.

Salary: $134,500–$214,700 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, and applicable sales incentive payments.

What you will do

• Design, build, and evolve secure, scalable transaction-processing solutions for the Acceptance Solutions platform.
• Provide technical direction for architecture, API strategy, integration patterns, and engineering standards while spending 60–75% of the time coding.
• Build and support APIs, web services, microservices, enterprise integrations, and distributed systems.
• Develop event-driven payment processing using Kafka, message queues, event streaming, workflow orchestration, and event enrichment.
• Improve engineering productivity and quality through Generative AI, agentic AI workflows, RAG, and intelligent automation.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable solutions.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's Degree, 2 years with an advanced degree, a PhD with no experience, or 8+ years of relevant experience without the listed degrees.
• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages, including Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, or Kotlin.
• Experience with system design, architecture, debugging, troubleshooting, production support, and technical leadership.
• Experience with API-first design, REST, OpenAPI, JSON, webhooks, event-driven architecture, and enterprise-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, authentication and authorization, observability, reliability, and automated testing.
• Knowledge of payment event processing, transaction lifecycles, clearing, payment message formats, PCI-DSS or SOX compliance, and payment network protocols.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka, SFTP, batch processing, Avro, Protobuf, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, Datadog, or Grafana.
• Experience implementing Generative AI, agentic AI, RAG, or intelligent automation.
• Knowledge of event correlation, transaction matching, retries, dead-letter queues, event replay, exactly-once processing, and idempotency patterns.
