Power Converter Engineer - Defense

Location: Dynapower, South Burlington, Vermont, United States. The position requires eligibility to obtain authorization under ITAR and/or EAR; non-US persons may not be eligible.

Base salary: $118,800–$163,350 per year.

What you will do

• Design IGBT-based power converters for defense and mission-critical applications within interdisciplinary teams.
• Own converter architecture, digital and analog controls, magnetics design, and validation activities.
• Lead feasibility studies, engineering analysis, qualification testing, production launch, and design verification.
• Investigate failures and perform engineering evaluations to address complex product and manufacturing challenges.
• Maintain drawings, specifications, design reports, test reports, operating manuals, test procedures, and lessons learned.
• Lead customer-facing collaboration on product requirements, schedules, and budgets with senior engineers and managers.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience in power converter design, analysis, and validation.
• University degree, such as a bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Strong understanding of converter topologies, switching strategies, gate-drive design, and protection circuits.
• Hands-on experience designing and testing high-frequency, high-current magnetics.
• Experience with MIL-spec environmental and EMI/EMC compliance and familiarity with UL, CSA, IEEE, and CE standards.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, organization, collaboration, and documentation skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

• Experience with SiC devices, advanced digital control platforms, and DSP/FPGA-based control.
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, or SPICE.
• Background in defense, aerospace, or ruggedized industrial power systems.
