Principal Electrical Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA; lab and cross-functional presence required. 10% travel to customer sites, contract manufacturers, and test facilities.

Base salary: $150,000–$206,800 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, analysis, integration, testing, and production release of bot-level electrical systems for automated material-handling robots.
• Design schematics and PCB layouts in Altium, including stackup, placement, routing, signal and power integrity, EMC-aware layout, and design for manufacturability.
• Drive products through the Product Development Process, including requirements, phase gates, design reviews, verification, design freeze, and release.
• Develop power distribution, sensing, compute, communications, grounding, harness, and mechanical-system interfaces.
• Plan and execute safety, functional, EMC/EMI, and robustness testing; investigate failures and lead corrective design in laboratories, manufacturing sites, and customer locations.
• Partner with PLM teams and contract manufacturers on BOMs, engineering changes, first articles, production ramp, and sustaining; mentor electrical designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 12+ years of electrical design experience taking products from concept through production.
• Expertise in Altium schematic capture and high-end PCB layout, or equivalent ECAD experience with willingness to work in Altium.
• Experience with robotics, automation, mobile robots, AGVs/AMRs, or automotive electronic systems in harsh electrical and mechanical environments.
• System-level electronics integration experience covering interconnects, grounding, power distribution, sensors, and subsystem interfaces.
• Knowledge of functional safety, EMC/EMI, DfX, formal phase-gate processes, PLM, and contract-manufacturing production workflows.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience with SIL, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, or equivalent safety standards.
