Underwriting Associate (Commercial Casualty)

Location: Remote - Maryland

Salary: $36.06 per hour

What you will do

• Support underwriters through new business and renewal processes by organizing documents, preparing files, and tracking outstanding requirements.
• Review Commercial Auto, Commercial General Liability, and Excess Liability submissions, policies, endorsements, exposure information, and loss runs.
• Prepare underwriting summaries, account worksheets, exposure analyses, and other materials for underwriting evaluation and decision-making.
• Process underwriting documents within established authority, guidelines, and procedures.
• Coordinate with underwriters, internal departments, brokers, clients, and other business partners on account activity, certificates, inspections, renewals, and cancellations.
• Maintain complete underwriting files and monitor outstanding information, subjectivities, inspections, and recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or one to three years of relevant Property and Casualty insurance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
• Ability to interpret commercial insurance policies, applications, endorsements, exposure information, and loss runs.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, and escalate matters requiring underwriting judgment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel, with the ability to learn underwriting and policy management systems.
• Ability to handle confidential information and demonstrate initiative, reliability, accountability, and willingness to develop technical knowledge.
